Shocking Video Shows Point Police Suffer Blade Attacks in Ambush
One senior officer who jumped to the assistance of a colleague who was ambushed by a knife attacker has been awarded the Royal Recognition for Bravery.
Sergeant Tim Ansell fought with 27-yr-old Jacob Brown after he placed a knife to the throat of his fellow officer Sgt Marc Foster.
Brown began the violence as the policemen and their third officer, Police Constable Marcus Wolstencroft, were conversing to a motorist following a traffic accident in that location in summer 2023.
Brown attacked with blade the two Sgt Ansell and Sgt Foster prior to PC Wolstencroft stopped him with a electric weapon.
"Policeman stabbed," PC Wolstencroft could be heard saying over his communication device.
Bodyworn and dashcam recording shared by the force showed Brown, who was dressed in dark clothing with a head covered, approach to Sgt Foster from the rear with a knife pointed forward.
He ran into the officer who tripped and fell to the pavement, after which Sgt Ansell stepped in and attempted to subdue him to the floor even though being continually attacked with the knife.
Police Constable Wolstencroft deployed his electric weapon and sought a open target, concluding the struggle to an conclusion.
Sergeant Ansell stated audibly: "I need help on my neck now, I'm bleeding in the neck."
Sgt Ansell received multiple deep cuts to his throat and further wounds to his limbs and torso, whereas Sergeant Foster suffered knife wounds.
Officials said Sgt Foster used his bare hands to stop his fellow officer's blood loss before emergency responders reached the scene.
This most recent award comes after the trio of policemen won organizational Courage Honors in fall 2023 and the police federation award from the regional union branch in spring 2024.
They further earned a North West Courage Honor in mid-2024.
"The actions of all three officers ultimately protected each other and ensured no civilians experienced any injuries."
Brown was given to an psychiatric detention in spring 2024, per the department.
